2015-2016 JONES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

This is the 18th year that Jones Scholarships have been awarded thanks to C. Darrell and Edith L. Jones. Charles Darrell Jones was born in Muncie in 1908 and graduated from Muncie High School in 1926. After graduation, he attended Ball State Teachers College and competed in Track and Field. He was a three-year letterman, and he became the Cardinals’ first national champion when he won the NCAA high jump in 1931. Mr. Jones was inducted into the Ball State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1976. He owned and operated the Jones Agency for 25 years until his retirement in 1974. He was also a WWII veteran, and when he passed away in 1992, he was 83.

Edith Jones was born in Muncie in 1907. She was a member of the Ludington family who were active members of the Jackson Street Christian Church, which is now Hazelwood. She graduated from Muncie High School in 1925, and she earned a degree from Ball State Teachers College. She taught for 20 years at various Muncie schools. She was also a member of the Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the YWCA. She passed away in 1996 at the age of 88.
