ALL-YOUTH FELLOWSHIP (AYF)
“I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11
In our last All-Youth Fellowship, we spoke about memorizing scripture. When I was young, I memorized scripture for competition or the belief that my life might depend on it one day. As I grew older, I found myself questioning the need to memorize scripture. After all, God left us the Bible. We have the Bible on our tablets and smart phones, and we can do a quick search on Google.com. There are so many other things we need to memorize, why take the effort to memorize something that is so easy to look up?
I believe Mahatma Ghandi answered that question best when he said, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” If we want to change our attitudes, resist temptations, increase our faith, and know God’s desires, we must treasure God’s words of encouragement, wisdom, and guidance. Those words will fill our thoughts in our time of need and will become our words, actions, habits, values, and destiny. ~ James Petty
