With the long-awaited news of the possible sale of the Fellowship House, comes the fact that we have a lot of work ahead of us as we prepare to combine what is currently housed in two buildings into just one. Plans are currently in the works to figure out just where the church offices will be located and how to make that move with minimal disturbance to the daily goings-on at the church.
One of the biggest hurdles we face is the need to free up some space. Anyone who has seen the current state of the storage areas in the church building knows just how monumental a task we have ahead! We have a plethora of stuff that just sits around collecting dust, much of it not touched for years. We need to ask ourselves, “Is this something we really need to hold on to?”
Thanks to our Property Committee, we have a game plan! We have a few All-Church Work Days scheduled to tackle these spaces and help us prepare the way for the transition to come. During these work days, we will be sorting the items in our storage areas into three groups: Keep, Donate, and Trash. To make this process easier and cut down on the chaos, a leader will be appointed to each area to direct what items fall into each category. Anything marked to be donated or thrown away, you are welcome to claim as your own… but you must take it with you that day. We have limited space and a tight time-table. Those things needed to run the offices and the many different ministries of Hazelwood will have to take priority.
Saturday, February 4, 9 a.m.– Noon: Our focus will be on sorting the main floor and attic spaces in the church building.
Saturday, February 18, 9 a.m.– Noon: We will be sorting non-preschool items in the lower level of the church building.
Saturday, March 4, 9 a.m.– Noon: Arrangements will be made for items that have been marked to donate to be picked up by Habitat Restore and Muncie Mission. A dumpster will be available for items marked as trash.
Saturday, March 18, 9 a.m.– Noon: Bring your muscles, it’s Moving Day! Larger office items will be moved from the Fellowship House into their new spaces. We will also take care of moving any large Preschool/ELC items that need to be relocated.
Sign-up sheets for the work days will be in the Rotunda beginning Sunday, January 22. It’s a big task, but if we join together, we can make this happen!
