This is just one of the many stories and needs around the world that the monies from CROP support:
Evaly’s Story
For moms in remote communities in northern Nicaragua, caring for little ones can be a challenge. For example, life here often means that moms give babies solid food too soon. “The reason why we do that is because a lot of us have to leave our children with our neighbors while we go to work in our fields, which are often far away from where the community is. That means that our neighbors aren’t able to give them breast milk,” she says.
A CWS-supported program in the area is partnering with moms to strategize about how to best overcome these challenges and nourish young children. Evaly says that she now has a better understanding of what to do when a child is malnourished and what foods are best for children at each stage of development.
CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations, raising funds and awareness to combat hunger at home and around the world. Twenty-five percent of all money raised stays here in Delaware County to support Christian Ministries Food Bank.
There are TWO ways you can help:
STEP ONE– Sign up to WALK and ask people to sponsor you.
STEP TWO– Sponsor a Hazelwood walker.
As the host church this year, our goal is to get everyone involved in this annual walk. Mark you calendar now, get your shoes out, and start walking! We will begin recruiting walkers this Sunday, September 2.
