Nominate Someone for a 2022 Hazelwood Leadership Position by Sunday, Oct 10

The 2021 Nominating Committee is charged with identifying nominees for the Church Board Officers, Elders, Deacons, and Trustees to be elected for 2022, to be presented at the Congregational Meeting in November 2021. If you have a candidate to nominate, you may submit names by clicking HERE, or contact members of the committee directly: Shirley Bookout, Glen Sulanke, Cheryl McCoy, Marcia Miller, and Amy Stuckey, through Suday, October 10.

Where do you see yourself contributing to the ministry of Hazelwood Christian?

Sometimes we fall into the habit of calling on the same people to do “all the things.” But it is VERY good to have new people and new ideas join in the various ministries this congregation carries out, and even help us imagine new ones!

Last week, we highlighted the Hazelwood Community Garden Team and the Governance Guidelines Team. Before that, the Christian Life Team and the Epiphany Action Team were featured. Below, you will see the highlights for three other active ministries here at Hazelwood. As you read through these highlights, please be thinking and praying about where God is calling you to contribute YOUR time and talent. As the old saying goes: Many hands make light work and glad hearts.

Worship Team
Current Members: Chair Marianna Gill, Steve Cartwright (ex-officio), Tony Gill, Amy Moudy, Brynmar Rees, Rev. Pamela (ex-officio), Lori Rhoden (ex-officio), Laura Rowe, Ann Wolfe

The Worship Team advises the Minister and the Worship Coordinator in regards to the creation of  meaningful worship services for Sunday mornings, special occasions, and holidays. This team also periodically evaluates the elements of the worship services to assist in the meeting the needs of the congregation and potential guests. Ideally, they would also assist in decorating the sanctuary for special services and holidays.

Permanent Fund Committee
Current Members: Tony Gill (ex-officio) Michelle Altobella, Jay Matchett, John Starnes, Dee Moser, Jim Reece

The Permanent Fund has been established at the Christian Church Foundation for the purpose of receiving gifts of stocks, bonds, real estate, tangible property, and cash from bequests and gifts. Five members of the church serve on the Permanent Fund team, and make decisions on how to allocate the proceeds of this fund. They are elected by the congregation for three year terms, and meet four times or less per year.

Missions & Benevolence Team
Current Members: Chair Shirley Bookout, Don Crose, Marcia Miller, Glen Sulanke

The Missions & Benevolence Team is responsible for the distribution of monies received from the Sulanke Trust and the Permanent Fund. The team reviews the many requests from organizations and distributes money where they feel the needs are greatest. M&B also sponsors and supports the following activities in the community: Walk-A-Mile In My Shoes, provides meals for one week for the Christian Ministries’ Sleeping Room, provides volunteers four times a year to work at the Christian Ministries’ Food Pantry, collects non-perishable food items (Christmas In July) for the Christian Ministries’ Food Pantry, collects shoes for Hearts & Hands Back to School Giveaway, and collects Nursing Home Christmas gifts. Thanks and Blessings to all who help support these many opportunities to contribute or volunteer.

Thank You!

Special Thanks to these people who contributed to the Hazelwood Christian activities and music at the Fall Festival on our lawn this past Saturday:
Jim Reece and Nancy Wean, Ann Wolfe, Glen Sulanke, Shirley Bookout, Mary Ann Matchett, Tony and Marianna Gill, Wendy Rees, Jairen Rees, and Rev. Pamela.

Search Committee Update

The Search Committee met with Rev. Dean Phelps (interim regional minister, Kentucky) on September 1st via Zoom. He encouraged us to remain visible to the congregation with periodic updates. He also suggested to:

  • Consider a Sunday morning commissioning of the Search Committee, identifying ourselves to onsite and virtual worshipers.
  • At every opportunity, ask the congregation to be in prayer for us.
  • Share openly about the process, but remain confidential concerning people.

We are now working on the Congregational Profile. We are using already available information from the Epiphany Process (2018) and the resulting “Future Story” that put into narrative form our five-year plan (2019-2023). We want to include current input as well, involving onsite and virtual worshipers.

Search Committee members: Tony Gill, Joanna Hahn, Winnie Muhiga, Jason Ratts, Ann Wolfe
