Elder's Ministry

Your Board of Elders is considered a part of the ministerial team of Hazelwood. We share in the total ministry of the Church and assist Reverend Colby in a variety of ways. We serve the Lord with love in our heart, mind, and soul.
One of the joys the Elders are responsible for is to take communion each Sunday morning to individuals who are not able to attend our service. This is done immediately following the first service and involves both the Board of Elders and the Deacons. One Deacon each week accompanies an Elder and assists them in providing this service to our homebound members and friends. This is an opportunity to take these individuals a sense of the whole body of our Church and allow them the spiritual revival that partaking of the Lord's supper provides.
The Elders deliver Home Communion on three different routes. One trip involves going to the Waters Nursing Home in Yorktown along with the Elmcroft Nursing Home in Muncie. The second route includes any patients at Ball Hospital, The Waters Nursing Home in Muncie, and Lynd House in Muncie. The third route is to Westminster in Muncie. The Elder responsible for the Westminster trip actually conducts a short Chapel service for those interested.
The Home communion experience is truly a moving experience for all involved. Each visit includes highlights of the morning service, distribution of the bulletin, and any other news of Hazelwood and our activities at the Church. In each visit the person is allowed to feel the love and concern of the congregation. After a visit, the communion sacrament are presented with the words of institution, including the Lord's Prayer. A special prayer is offered for each person visited. Any visitors or other patients that are present are offered the opportunity to participate in the service.
The Elders are proud to represent our Church in this manner. Our routes are flexible to allow any new additions that may be necessary each week. Hazelwood can be proud of the commitment and dedication displayed in this act of Christian love to others.
