1. This year’s VBS is in the evening.  We are hosting VBS from 5-7:30 p.m., Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20.  Each evening will start with dinner in the Sulanke Fellowship House. 
2. There is also a registration fee for VBS this year.  The cost is $10.00 per child, with a discount of $5.00 for each additional child attending from your family.  (For example, a family with one child attending pays $10.00, a family with two children pays $15.00, and a family with three children pays $20.00).  The registration fee will cover three important items: a t-shirt for every participant, a CD of the VBS music for each family, and dinner for each child every night.  Registration fees may be paid at the time of registration, the first night of VBS, or dropped of at the church office, no later than Friday, July 13.
3. You may begin registering for VBS now.  Registration forms may be completed online at www.vacationbibleschool.com/hazelwoodcc, or you may pick one up at the church office.  You will also have a chance to register your child/children for VBS after each service on Sunday, June 17, 24, and July 8.
4. You may volunteer to help with VBS by completing a volunteer form online at www.vacationbibleschool.com/hazelwoodcc, or by completing the form in your bulletin this Sunday.  You may also contact Mariangella Glaze, 747-0839, or Sara Laroche, 282-5969, if you are interested in helping. 
5. Updates for VBS will be posted in the newsletter, on Facebook (Hazelwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)), and on Twitter (@hazelwoodcc).

The book we are basing our study on this time is “The Good and Beautiful Community,” by James Bryan Smith.  We will be looking at how we as Christians are called to follow the spirit, extend grace, and demonstrate the love Christ calls us to. 

If you are interested in preordering the book, please either fill out the form in the bulletin Sunday, May 20 and 27, or call the church office.  Books will be available to be picked up from the church office Wednesday, May 23.  The cost of purchasing the book through the church is $15.00.  If you are interested in participating but do not wish to purchase the book, check with your public library for a copy, or you may order it through amazon.com. 

Please contact the church office if you need child care for these evenings.  Youth 6th grade and older are invited to join us for discussion.   

The Personnel Committee has worked through two meetings, with another scheduled, to proceed toward completing the task of acquiring a new director of choirs. This notice is to inform the congregation of a staff position to be filled in accordance with established church policy and practice.

The Personnel Committee is composed of the following six seated members in addition to Moderator John Starnes, Vice-Moderator Dennis Holmes and Rev. Smith:

A volunteer training meeting will be held on Monday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m., at Longfellow Elementary School. The test will be re-given to students in June. This Sunday, May 6, Mary Dollison, from the Whitely Community Council, will be here to further explain the program, and she and Shirley Bookout will be signing up volunteers during the 10:15 a.m. coffee fellowship time.

There is a Wish Board available, for anyone who would like to support the preschool ministry.  Please take a moment to visit our Wish Board, in the Rotunda, to see if you can help.

Each year it takes approximately 40 adults and youth to make Vacation Bible School happen. We need people willing to lead small groups of children, prepare meals, help with crafts, sing songs, and lead story time. Please prayerfully consider helping with Vacation Bible School this summer. It is always a rewarding experience for all who participate.

There will be an insert in this week’s bulletin that you can fill out, indicating where you are willing to help. Please turn forms into the church no later than Monday, May 21. Our director will contact you with more information as soon as your form is turned in.
